Senior Backend Engineer

Are you ready to build the backend platform powering large-scale 3D reality capture and geospatial data processing?

Groundhawk is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and scale the services, data pipelines, and APIs that power our platform. In this role, you will build the systems that connect field data capture with office workflows — processing massive 3D point clouds, managing geospatial data at scale, and integrating with ML workflows and external systems.

This is a hands-on builder role where you will ship production services, evolve backend architecture, and own critical infrastructure from API design to data pipelines.

3D scanning and AI-driven reality capture are transforming how underground fiber and electricity networks are mapped and documented. As infrastructure projects scale across Europe, accurate and verifiable underground data has become critical.

Groundhawk delivers precise underground data for infrastructure owners, contractors, and utilities across Europe. Our platform processes large volumes of 3D data and turns them into actionable insights used directly in real construction projects.

YOUR MISSION

Your mission is to architect and scale Groundhawk’s backend platform, building the services and data pipelines that connect field data capture with customer workflows while handling geospatial data at scale. 

You will play a key role in evolving our backend architecture and ensuring our platform can process growing volumes of 3D and spatial data reliably and efficiently.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Design and build backend services using Python and Node.js, evolving our API architecture
• Build and operate data pipelines that ingest, process, and serve geospatial data at scale
• Own and improve our microservices architecture, ensuring reliability and performance
• Collaborate with ML engineers on processing pipelines for 3D point clouds and sensor data
• Optimize database performance and query patterns across PostgreSQL / PostGIS
• Drive infrastructure improvements on AWS, including observability, CI/CD and scaling

It is considered a strong advantage if you have:

• Experience with geospatial or GIS technologies
• Experience with 3D data processing, point clouds or ML pipelines
  
  

• Technically demanding problems: sensor fusion, 3D capture and computer vision on large datasets

Remote within EU time zone, with an office in  Espoo, Finland.
